My art happens when somewhere deep inside of me I am compelled to create as a response to something that has touched me.
An unknown person wrote this statement, and I use it here with thanks, having never found a better way to describe how I work
I like nothing better than getting lost in the creation of an artwork, relying on intuition and a deep instinct. Often un-aware of the actual work until after completion when I am able to sit back and observe.
My work relies on strong use of lines, shapes, colours, and textures. Initially training as a handcraft teacher I gained skills in basketry, silver and other metals, weaving, spinning, leatherwork, and many stitching crafts.
Later I studied design and became a fulltime artist, working mostly with papers, textiles, stitch, paint, found objects, and woven forms.
Collage, montage, textile, mixed media, fibre, sculpture, 2D or 3D are all terms that can be applied to my art.
I enjoy, simplicity, peace, the space I live in, the people I live with, my bush garden, the animals, the beach, an expansive horizon, exploring new places, and my art.
